About The Event

CreativeMornings OC + OCMA team up to present an artist talk and Summer Bash featuring a DJ, fresh jams, dancing, and adult refreshments.

Talk: Artist Amir Zaki on where ideas come from

From skateparks and lifeguard towers to rocks and tree stumps, artist Amir Zaki transforms seemingly mundane subject matter into stunning photographs that command our attention. He draws inspiration from what we’d consider to be “the real California,” for better or worse …, including McMansions, high-rise apartments, concrete, beaches, and urban sprawl.

Meet the artist and learn more about his work, process, and where he gets ideas.  After the talk, Zaki will sign his latest book California Concrete: a Landscape of Skateparks, featuring essays by Tony Hawk and architect Peter Zellner, and we’ll kick off CreativeMornings OC’s annual Summer Bash.

Tickets: $7 in advance (including fees, on Eventbrite), $10 at the door. Note: The Talk is free, but you'll definitely want to stay for the party.
