MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini's discovery that most facial-recognition software fails to identify dark skin and the faces of women cracks open the reality that widespread bias is inherent in artificial intelligence and algorithms, and leads her to take action by forming the Algorithmic Justice League and advocating for legislation in the U.S. to protect us.
